Getting started with Spelly

From sign-up to the first round of practice — about two minutes, no setup to configure.

⏱️ 2-minute read · For parents

1

Create a free account

Go to spelly.net/app and sign in with Google or an email and password. One account covers the whole family — Spelly is built around lists, so a child's different subjects (or two children) can each have their own.

2

Answer five quick questions

Onboarding asks for a name, age, which language to practise, roughly what level, and what brings you to Spelly. It takes under a minute and you can change every answer later in ⚙️ Settings. In a hurry? Skip for now drops you straight into the app.

3

Pick a list — or make your own

The dashboard opens with ready-to-play lists (Animals, Space, Sight Words, Foods and more). Tap one and you're practising immediately — no setup at all.

For this week's actual school words, tap ✏️ Create New List and type them in, or scan the worksheet with your phone camera.

4

Play a round

Choose a game mode (there are five) and tap Continue. Spelly reads each word aloud, your child spells it, and correct answers pay out XP and coins straight away.

💡 Sit with them for the first round. Kids get the game instantly, but the first minute is where a parent can set the tone: it's a game, not a test, and wrong answers cost nothing.

Common questions

Does my child need their own account?

No. Most families run one account and simply keep separate lists. Practice history and rewards live on that account.

Is it free?

Yes to start — the full game, all five modes and the ready-made lists are free. AI features (scanning worksheets, generating lists, definitions, pictures for your own words) run on sparks, and a new account gets 40 of them.

What age is Spelly for?

It is designed for roughly ages 6–12, but the level setting and your own word lists make it work either side of that — plenty of adults use it for a new language.
